…I don’t know 100% what tacomaness is, but I think it is both gritty and beautiful… like rollergirls:

The rough and tumble rollergirls of Tacoma are into their third season. If you haven’t experienced them yet, get ready to see womens athletics like you’ve never seen it before. In addition to sport, there is also plenty of room for personal expression from the customized uniforms to the each skater’s own adopted persona.
The Spring 2009 edition of South Sound Magazine describes the scene aptly: “The bouts mesh a frenzy of sports action with a diverse atmosphere of wholesome counter-culture that attracts a dizzying assortment of Puget Sound residents. Veteran fans come equipped with lawn chairs and blankets, and sit as close as possible to the track, risking a player landing in their lap. Others observe the action from the bird’s-eye perspective of the beer garden, sipping two-dollar tallboys. Many simply meander through the festival, soaking in some of the best people watching south of Seattle’s Pike Place Market.” (http://www.southsoundmag.com/article_read.php?articleid=92)
Bout 2 of this season features a face off between the hard-hitting Maurading Mollys and the always-alluring Hellbound Homewreckers. In addition, the reigning champions, the Trampires, will go up against their fiercest competitors, the Femme Fianna, to see if they still have what it takes to be #1. If you haven’t seen flat-track roller derby, this action packed night will be a great introduction!
