Roller Derby in Tacoma!
Do you sometimes get the unexplainable urge to body check your husband or boyfriend? Do you wish you could tackle your annoying boss or co-worker? It looks like you are not alone. Tacoma now has its very own all-girl flat-track roller derby league, the Dockyard Derby Dames. The league is still forming and they are looking for more fearless ladies to join their ranks. Exhibition bouts are set to start mid-to-late summer and their first full season will begin late February/March 2007.
Here’s some info from their web site:
Who can become a Dockyard Derby Dame?
Are you fearless or willing to learn to be? No prior skating experience is necessary, however, you must be committed to learn. You (ladies only) must be 21 years of age and provide your own transportation to practice (although some people carpool). We practice at Skate-N-Station, 133rd and Pacific Avenue in Parkland.
The Tacoma news tribune also has a great write up about the Dames!

Hi, I am interested in joining your practice for roller derby and being considered as a team member. I’ve been skating since I was 8, and I would love some more information. Ready to rumble. :)
