Thanks for Supporting Tacoma Schools
I have one very happy teacher in my house who would like to say “Thanks Tacoma!” The Levy seems to have passed with a comfortable 66%(ish) margin. The News Tribune has a nice write up about the results and it was interesting to note that voter turnout wasn’t all that much higher than last winter. 31,730 vs. 33,395. Despite the great campaigning of the Tacoma Citizens for Schools there was only this single item on the ballet, and its overall visibility must have remained low.
I’m also trying to figure out why. . .
This month’s election marked the first time in memory that voters saw a mass mailing and newspaper ads opposing a Tacoma schools measure.
Tacoma Citizens for Affordable Housing sent 15,000 district households a postcard criticizing the School District’s per-student costs, which are among the highest in the state.
I didn’t get their mailing, but Tacoma Citizens for Affordable Housing seems like the last organization that would oppose supporting this cities schools.

Until the Replacement Levy passed, A teacher from Stanley Elementry School was worried about being cut. She already moved 3 times prior. Thanks to this Levy, it put her mind at ease.
