Tacomaness.com: Organic Fruit and Farmer's Markets

Organic Fruit and Farmer's Markets

I’ve had a chance to explore freighthouse square a little waiting for the sounder. It’s quite a strange little place and I’m not sure what I think aboutit yet except for the following tidbit. There is this neat little organic produce stand in the south end that I think has a great chance at helping to turn the rest of the space into something a little more interesting. It is called the Golden Pear and they are open in the mornings and evenings for the convenience of Sounder commuters. So next time you hop off the train after work, swing by and pick up some fresh produce. Its healthy for you, and it helps support regional farmers.

Speaking of organic produce Tacoma’s two largest farmers markets are starting up soon.

We have been to the Proctor Farmer’s market, but I haven’t been to the market downtown or near the dome. I’m certainly going to make an effort this year to wake up early enough to check them out. Here’s some information from their web site at www.tacomafarmersmarket.com

Downtown Market on Broadway
Thur. 10:00am to 3:00pm (May 18th – Aug. 31st )
Thur. 10:00am to 2:00pm (Sep. 7th – Oct. 19th )
You’ll still find your festive Thursday tradition on Broadway Street, offering up the season’s freshest produce, artisan crafts, prepared foods, toe-tapping music and much more. Don’t miss monthly KIDS’ DAY events, June 22nd, July 20th and August 24th.

Dome District Market
Tue. 3:00pm to 7:00pm (Jun. 6th – Sep. 12th )
Location, Location, Location. Now we have a 2nd market to serve you. Ride the LINK to our convenient Dome District Market, Tuesdays from 3-7pm beginning June 6th. Fruits and vegetables, picked “morning fresh” are available for tonight’s dinner. Or, have the family meet you for some after-work fun, shopping and perhaps dinner at one of Tacoma’s many new local restaurants.

My favorite part about Freighthouse Square is the art gallery. We visited within the first month of living here and bought a great print. There is, as in all galleries, some truly hidious and frightening stuff as well.

I think i sort of passed the gallery; I’ll have to check it out again. I tried the Mexican restaurant the other day.. not too bad. I think I’m going to try all of the restaurants over the next few months (since I ride the train) and do some sort of write up. Anyone else up for the Freight House square challenge??
