Engine House no. 9's Beer Club
Last summer I achieved Tacoma greatness. My name and catchy saying – on a plaque – on the wall of a pub I can walk home from. Does it get any better than that? While I’m usually not a strict goal setting kind of person, the E9 beer club posed the kind of challenge I was ready to tackle.
So the challenge!
47 different beers
90 days
The reward.
Your name and an optional slogan or saying on a plaque, immortalized for eternity and oh yea a beer club t-shirt!
I have a friend who now lives 2 blocks from E9 and I was reminded of my achievement and a few tips and techniques came to mind… Just incase you are up for the adventure and would like to give this a try.
Tip 1:
Unless your 21 and don’t have a job or you are a raging alcoholic, treat this like a marathon rather than a sprint. You need to keep a pace of about 4 beers a week. Pick two nights and stop in for your two beers. Sure there’s the guy who finished the beer club in 3 days.. but does anyone know if he’s still alive?
Tip 2:
Bring a friend or two. That way when you order that really sweet and thick Scottish beer that turns your stomach, you can pass it along to a friend. or If there’s a particular beer on the list that you know you’ll hate. Ask the waitress for something else. They are all friendly and great people who will help you find something that won’t make you puke.
Tip 3:
Beer on tap vs. Bottled beers? You’ll have a split between their bottled and tap beers. Keep in mind that some of their bottles are more than 16 oz and some of them are high octane. There are some who think its smart to get the bottles out of the way and to save the great E9 beers for last.
Tip 4:
Walk there and walk home. This will help, somewhat in counteracting the beer gut your going to develop in this 3-month period.
