Taste of Tacoma 2006

I have this great talent for being out of town every time this event is scheduled. It’s probably been 3 years since we’ve been able to make it. With all of the new restaurants arriving in Tacoma I’d expect this year’s event to be a good time. Hopefully you are all able to make up for my sorryness and can report on the event.

The Taste of Tacoma happens…

June 30-July 2, 2006
at Point Defiance Park
FESTIVAL HOURS
Friday & Saturday 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Sunday 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.

From their Web site . . .

The Taste will offer over 30 restaurant choices with everything from pizza to curry to seafood (and a few sweets thrown in, too), five entertainment stages, the Wine & Roses wine tasting, beer gardens, arts and crafts, a carnival, kids’ activities and much more!

Cat Power - Need a ride to Seattle?

There is a Tacoma contingent heading up to see Chan Marshall of Cat Power fame Monday May 1st at the Showbox.
You can purchase ticekts at Tickets West

Never heard of Cat Power? Here’s a blurb from Allmusic.com

Cat Power was the alias of Chan Marshall, a Southern-bred singer/songwriter whose father, Charlie, was an itinerant pianist. After dropping out of high school, Marshall found herself in New York; performing under the name Cat Power, she was booked as the opening act for Liz Phair, where she met Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley and Two Dollar Guitar’s Tim Foljahn, who agreed to become her backing band.

Take a listen over at Amazon if you need further convincing.

More Power for Kexp

There is some hope for those of us feeling the void left by Kexp and their departure from Tacoma earlier this month. Here is part of a very nice email from Tom Mara at Kexp.

KEXP goes Static in Tacoma

I started my car this morning to the sound of static. It’s very early and I’m very much still asleep. So maybe my radio is broke? Did my wife change the presets on me? The dial reads 91.7, and as I sadly turn the volume up I can barely make out the faint yet cheerful sounds of … mariachi music??
